So I thought of this as college is approaching for me. I’m gonna be in the dorms! 😀 For anyone in this position, I believe it’s a nerve wrecking thing. The place that you’ve lived at for forever is not going to be “home” for a good year (if you’re moving into dorms or something for two semesters). Anyway, I realized moving is going to be a big thing, so there’s a couple tips I want to bring up.
First off, you gotta clean up. Yes, I know, it’s kind of a burden for some, but in the long run, you’re gonna be thankful for it. Think about the clothes you wear all the time and bring those along. If you’re rummaging through your wardrobe and see something you’re probably not going to wear any time soon, it’s better to take it to Plato’s Closet or Goodwill or something. Getting a good clean out of your closet and clothing wardrobe is a big thing so you have your outfit priorities straight.
Another thing: don’t take along things that you don’t need. For example, if you have snow globes, mini figurines, key chains scattered everywhere, or just something that’s considered clothing, don’t worry about it. It’s not a necessity and plus, it’s better to start out in a new place with everything simple and organized. Well, that’s my view on it anyway.
Keep your new place as tidy as you can. With studying and activities and hobbies in the way, if you have your place or room as a black hole, you’ll never get anything done. The more floor space, the more studying room! 😀 Also, it’ll be a nicer space to come home to after a long day at school/work/whatever.
If you’re living at your new place for longer than a couple months or year, think about the kind of layout you want. Are you more of a simple person with a few decorations here and there, or do you like to go all out with anything you do? I like to think your personality reflects on how you set up your living space. If you have pictures of your favorite hobbies, put those up on walls! If you have some decorations you’ve always liked, place them around your area. Go crazy and have fun with it. 🙂
That’s my little rant on that. Ahhhh, I’m so nervous and excited to move out! I’m sure you are too if you’re moving! Take in consideration anything and everything you pack to bring to your new apartment/dorm/house/wherever you’re living. Have an awesome weekend! 🙂
